The man in the glass

I seen this in Dear Abby today and thought it was something worth sharing. One thing I will note though is that Dear Abby's proofreaders I really beginning to slip because instead of "pass" in one of the sentences they left out the "p" which I have added with alittle oopsie next to it so as not to confuse anyone. Just goes to show we are all human and can make an "ass" of ourselves!!

When you get what you want in your struggle for self

And the world makes you king for a day,

Just go to a mirror and look at yourself

And see what THAT man has to say.

For it isn't your father or mother or wife

Whose judgment upon you must pass,(oopsie)

The fellow whose verdict counts most in your life

Is the one staring back from the glass.

Some people might think you're a straight-shootin' chum

And call you a wonderful guy.

But the man in the glass says you're only a bum

If you can't look him straight in the eye.

He's the fellow to please, never mind all the rest,

For he's with you clear to the end,

And you've passed your most dangerous test

If the guy in the glass is your friend.

You may fool the whole world down the pathway of years

And get pats on the back as you pass,

But your final reward will be heartache and tears

If you've cheated the man in the glass.

I was on Yahoo Answers recently and someone had cited a poem by Audrey Hepburn. This is a poem she wrote when asked to share her "beauty tips".

For lovely eyes, seek out the good in people...

For a slim figure, share your food with the hungry...

For beautiful hair, let a child run his/her fingers through it once a day...

For poise, walk with the knowledge that you never walk alone...

People, even more than things, have to be restored, renewed, revived, reclaimed, and redeemed; never throw out anyone...

Remember, if you ever need a helping hand, you will find one at the end of each of your arms...

As you grow older, you will discover that you have two hands; one for helping yourself, and the other for helping others.
